Local-first bookkeeping

Bookkeeping data stays under your control.

Mekazu is designed around local administrations on Mac. The core bookkeeping workflow does not require a cloud copy of your accounting file, while AI and integration workflows stay explicit and user-controlled.

Short answer

Local-first bookkeeping means the primary administration is stored and managed locally, with external services used only when the user chooses to connect them.

Local administration

Work with a Mac-based accounting file for the core workflow: invoices, purchases, VAT, reports, bank activity, and exports.

Privacy by workflow

Mekazu does not need a cloud mirror for the core administration. If you connect an AI provider, you do that with your own model configuration.

Automation with boundaries

Chat, MCP, and REST API workflows are powerful, but paid automation stays behind a license after the AI trial.

Checklist

What to check

  • Where the accounting file is stored
  • Which model provider receives data
  • Whether backups are configured
  • Which integrations are enabled
